Crooked Trails: Travel With a Purpose

DESTINATIONS  -  INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER  -  NEPAL

Nepal

This International Volunteer Program to Nepal is organized and run by Crooked Trails for Seattle Works to offer the best in Volunteer Travel. Seattle Works moves people from good intentions to action. Their mission is to engage, connect, and inspire people in their 20s and 30s to take action in our community.

Nepal is truly one of the most amazing places on earth. It is one of the smallest countries in the world, yet boasts the highest mountain, the deepest valley, and an astonishing array of wildlife, bird life and plants, as well as a large variety of ethnic and religious groups.

You will be living with a Nepali family and working alongside them to finish building the upper secondary school in the village of Chandeni. There will be time to hike the surrounding area, play with the children and learn a few words in the local language. The villagers will welcome you and share not only their homes but also their customs, culture, art, food and laughter with you. This will be a truly amazing time for you and them. During your home-stay your accommodations will be simple yet comfortable and the food is traditional, nourishing and grown locally.

Educational opportunities are crucial to young rural Nepalis with hopes for a better future. A volunteer group last fall worked to complete the lower secondary school; with the completion of the upper secondary school on this trip, villagers in and around Chandeni will now have access to a full education, extending through the 10th grade, which they have not had before.

In addition, a 5-day extension trekking in the breathtaking Annapurna area of the Himalayas can be arranged for an additional $400 per person. Please indicate your interest when you apply.
