Seis Vacas Para Peru  (6 Cows for Peru)
Location: Usabamaba, Sacred Valley, Peru
Project Cost: $2,700

Seis Vacas Para Peru is based on what other organizations have done so successfully - such as Heifer International – and is centered on the idea that giving a live animal to a family is more beneficial than giving an equivalent amount of money.  The cow can provide milk and manure for years to come whereas the funds are more often spent on limited amounts of food.

Usabamaba lies at over 13,000 feet in the Sacred Valley of the Inca highlands, deep in the Peruvian Andes.  This small, impoverished, rural village is a gathering of 30 families living just off the main tourist highway to Machu Picchu but is passed over by the thousands of tourists per year that visit the nearby Chinchero Sunday market to buy one of a kind weavings.

A boarding school is being built in Usabamaba by Paulino Quillahuaman Llancay and his wife Vilma, the owners of the Chinchero weavers cooperative, but beyond education this tiny village needs nutrition for their children.  With only 6 cows, this small Andean community would be able to provide that badly needed nutrition for their children and could raise more cows to ensure continuity for the herd, village nutrition and children's continuing education.

It’s amazing to think about how powerful and direct support can be. We can change the lives of a family in Usabamba immediately.  To deliver a cow to Usabamaba and provide for community management of the herd and provide updates for the donors will cost only $450US per cow.  You can donate an entire cow, or simply a portion of a cow ($20, $50, $100, $200...).  Use the donate button to the left to start the donation process, and please include a note that you are donating to Seis Vacas, or 6 Cows.
