Kakuta Ole Maimai
Expertise: Kenya
|
|
A Maasai warrior initiated after killing a lion with only a spear, Kakuta Ole Maimai works to integrate the Maasai way of life in Kenya with the modern world while preserving and celebrating the Maasai cultural heritage.
Kakuta believes that change is inevitable but works to ensure that the Maasai are agents of that change, rather than its victims. He seeks to raise international awareness of the challenges facing the Maasai and founded the Maasai Association to empower his people through education, healthcare, and economic development.
After earning a B.A. in political economy from Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, Kakuta focused on a master’s degree in international development from the School for International Training, based in Brattleboro, VT. He believes that his experiences living in both Maasai and western societies give him a unique vision to promote sustainable development for his people.
